UX audit checklist: 20 issues that quietly cost you leads

Most websites lose clients not because of design but because of small frictions: an unclear offer, a long form, a hidden phone number. Use this checklist to find them.

A UX audit is not about taste. It is a systematic look at the places where visitors hesitate, get confused or leave. Here is the checklist we start with on every project — you can run most of it yourself in an hour.

First screen

  • Can a new visitor say what you do in five seconds?
  • Is there one clear primary action?
  • Does the headline speak about the client’s result, not about you?
  • Is the page fast on a mobile connection?

Trust

  • Real cases, reviews or numbers near the call to action
  • Clear contacts and company details
  • Prices or at least price ranges where clients expect them
  • No broken links, typos or outdated dates

Navigation

  • Menu items named the way clients search
  • Service pages reachable in two clicks
  • A visible path back from any page
  • Search or filters on large catalogs

Forms and conversion

  • Only the fields you really need
  • Clear error messages that don’t erase entered data
  • A confirmation that tells the visitor what happens next
  • Alternative contact channels: messenger, phone, callback

Mobile

  • Buttons large enough to tap
  • No horizontal scrolling or overlapping elements
  • Phone numbers and emails are clickable
  • Popups don’t block the content on small screens

Found more than five issues? That is normal — and each fixed one usually lifts conversion a little. If you want a deeper review with recordings, heatmaps and prioritised fixes, take a look at our UX audit service.
